Janina Gavankar A native from Joliett, Illinois, Janina is an emerging talent, skilled across multiple areas of acting, singing, dancing, who is also a classically trained pianist, vocalist, and orchestral percussionist. Musically, she was part of the popular music group Endera, signed to a subsidiary of Universal Records. Outside of her current solo project, she collaborated with Pratichee of Viva, Deep, and Navraaz. As a major in Theatre Performance at the University of Illinois, Gavankar's drive helped land work in theatre, commercials, short, and independent films throughout the entire Chicago area. Since making the move from small-town Joliett to the core of the Entertainment Industry, Los Angeles, Gavankar has already appeared in the hit television series Girlfriends, Strong Medicine, along with urban movies Barbershop & Barbershop 2. Janina was sought out by Microsoft for their new innovative project, MsDewey.com, because of the all audience and all ethnicity appeal she brings to the table. As your host, she will playfully chat with you as you search on the site - but don't be taken back she happens to say her true thoughts on the topic of your search. Gavankar will next be seen in homes nationwide as a wild, but colorful new character "Papi" on Showtime's highly acclaimed hit series The L Word, which resumes airing January 2007. >back to cast
